Mansfield Play Forum began in 1985, prior to this a small group of community activists got together as they realised that play was changing, that the way children played was changing and they saw the need for work to be done within Mansfield to fight for the rights of the child to play and to ensure that play was part of the services delivered by Nottinghamshire county Council.
At this time things moved quickly Nottinghamshire County Council established their own Play Development Department with a play worker in each district who worked together with the Play Forums.
Nottinghamshire County Council began grant aiding Mansfield Play Forum and they do so to this day! This funding enabled the Play Forum to employ its first member of staff!
Initially the worker ran a mobile crèche service, alongside a team of volunteers. Over the years the project has grown and new projects have been developed and some have fallen by the wayside.
The Play Forum now runs a Scrap Store, Resource Centre, and Toy Library. We have a wide selection of Hire Equipment and provide training in using the equipment if required. We also deliver “Play in Schools” and we run regular park play sessions throughout Mansfield, we are now providing regular play workshops for small play organisations and families.
